Ken Fender

Chief Executive Officer

Ken Fender draws upon years of managerial and construction experience to lead Baker’s Washington, DC office. Born and raised in southwest Ohio, Ken interned with Baker during his senior year at Bowling Green State University. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in architecture from BGSU, Ken accepted a full-time position with Baker in January 1990. He worked his way through the Baker organization, eventually relocating from the Midwest to Washington, DC, to launch Baker DC in 2009.

Chuck Fiala

Vice President of Operations

Chuck Fiala joined the Baker organization full-time in 2005 after earning his bachelor’s from Bowling Green State University in construction management. From his start as an intern, Chuck’s strong work ethic allowed him to ascend the ranks of the Baker organization. Chuck leads the operations department on various strategic efforts to make our team more efficient and stronger leaders. With a focus on continuous improvement, Chuck motivates and challenges his team to exemplify the Baker Way.

Richard Williams

Director of Talent Management

Richard Williams has been a noteworthy leader within the construction industry for over 20 years. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Prairie View A&M University (Texas). After interning he joined the Baker organization full-time in 2000. Richard gained the respect of those in the field, working in various operational roles before transitioning to his current role as Regional Director of Talent Management. He has traveled extensively throughout the Baker organization and developed a passion for people. He believes that our co-workers are the company’s greatest asset and aims to build teams to their full potential.

Zach Utz

Financial Manager

When Zach joined the Baker team in 2018, he brought ten years’ of experience in corporate accounting and finance that included work managing construction project portfolios. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance from the University of Cincinnati. Zach is responsible for analyzing financial activities, forecasting, monitoring risk, and reporting, along with offering insight and financial advice that allows us to make informed decisions to reach and exceed our goals.

Shawn Crawford

Safety Manager

As Regional Safety Director, Shawn oversees the company safety program and serves as safety team lead. His keen insight into concrete construction processes allows him to be proactive in his methods and ensures safety remains the highest priority. Whether it is personnel training or an intricately detailed jobsite-specific safety plan, he draws upon a depth of safety knowledge and comprehension to address the well-being of all those involved. Shawn earned his bachelor’s and master’s (safety management) degrees from West Virginia University. With more than 20 years of construction experience, Shawn is a champion of safety in everything he does.
